Maxwell Star
A tiny but energetic pup, fighting the fight of his life.
‘I lost Maxwell Star almost 2 weeks ago to heart failure. He was diagnosed in April
and while doing well on medication only had a life expectancy of 6-12 months and
was struggling to do the things he loved most like playing fetch and going for long
walks so I made the very difficult decision to have a new procedure done to
implant a clip in his heart that would reduce the effects and give him a better
chance and quality of life. There was a risk that the insertion of the clip could
cause a tear in his already weakened heart, something that had happened on a
few occasions during or within a week after the procedure. I knew that without
the surgery his life would continue to decline so opted for the surgery despite the
risk. He did very well in surgery with no issues during or within the days after
when they were monitoring his heart.’
‘We came back home where he rested for two weeks until his stitches came out.
After that he got to start doing more things, still no fetch but shorter walks and
playing with his toys. Sadly though a week after his stitches were removed, so 3
weeks after the procedure the clip tore a hole in his heart and I lost him, suddenly
and shockingly. I am heartbroken and still cry every day over losing him. He was
my best friend, by my side for 11 years, since he was 2 months old.’
